Richard Sapper was born in Munich in 1932 where he studied philosophy, anatomy, graphics, engineering and economics. Ten times winner of the Compassi d'Oro, his prime interest is the design of technically complex objects, from ships to watches. The true heart of this design is the brass whistle whose pipes sing two notes, "B" and "E", providing a particularly attractive melody. Sapper wanted to avoid giving the whistle the usual irksome sound of the other kettles on the market. And this purely musical requirement led to what can be described as Alessis first multi-sensorial design.
