The Coupe Papier, or paper knife, is one of Prouve's rare small objects and in terms of shape unusual for his work. The design references elements of surrealist paintings of the era and its organic forms is reminiscent of the seat shell on Charles and Ray Eames La Chaise, which did not appear until ten years later. Commissioned by Prouve, the paper knife was a limited edition made of polished stainless steel and served as a gift for architects and business friends.
