Located on the shores of Lake Orta, ALESSI has established itself as the 'factory of Italian design'. Founded in the 20's, today they pride themselves in the art of houshold objects manufactured with stainless steel. The 826 comes as a variation on an age-old theme in the history of household products: that of the metal wire basket. This was the first object to emerge from research by the internal engineering department into wire-bending technology, in the late 40s. It led to the creation of a small family of baskets with very basic design which, even today, still reaps enormous success.
