This oval tray, with its essential lines and broad full rim, was designed by Josef Hoffmann in 1923 and can be considered the archetype of many trays now being produced industrially. This project is yet another excellent example of a reinterpretation of an iconic object intended both for professional and home use. When Hoffmann designed the Vassoio Ovale, he was clearly inspired by the tray on which a coffee service was presented with a glass of iced water in the typical Viennese street cafe.
