Located on the shores of Lake Orta, Alessi has established itself as the 'factory of Italian design'. Founded in the 20's, today they pride themselves in the art of household objects manufactured with stainless steel. Renowned botanist and scholar of decorative arts, Christopher Dresser (1834-1904) was probably the first industrial designer in the modern sense of the term. He designed crafted objects showing a great expressive daring but also a great number of houseware products (from wallpaper to furniture, from metal objects to ceramics, to glass, to fabrics).
