HOTCHKISS MOBILES Airdance Natural
The "Airdance" is an elegant performer. It was conceived as a full-movement outdoor mobile, composed of copper vanes with curved brass armatures. The metal panels align with the breeze and the central copper tube (suspended inside the brass rings), stabilizes the mobile allowing it to still move gracefully in stronger winds. The copper vanes are heat-treated to bring out colors in the metal. This effect is achieved by heating and rapidly cooling the metal resulting in the instant appearance of luscious hues on the surface. It's subsequently lacquered to preserve the finish. Arrives fully assembled and ready to hang.
Joel Hotchkiss has been designing contemporary kinetic art and mobiles since 1976. His work has been sold in numerous museum stores including the Guggenheim, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
