A beautifully choreographed system of balance and form, the Airvane mobile flows endlessly inward and out ...each vane with its own agenda, yet clearly a part of the greater design. The solid copper vanes are brazed onto steel armatures and then heat-treated with a torch to bring out the intense colors from the metal, assuring that each mobile is unique. It is a tall and narrow mobile that can be suspended at or above eye level, near a window or in that special corner that needs a touch of color. The Airvane is clear-coated with lacquer to preserve the finish. Each mobile is hand balanced, signed by the artist and packaged at the workshop - no assembly required! Joel Hotchkiss has been designing contemporary kinetic art and mobiles since 1976. His work has been sold in numerous museum stores including the Guggenheim, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.
