VITRA Potence Lamp

Looking like a Japanese pagoda made from an erector set, La Maison Tropicale, a prefab metal house, had been shipped to the French Congo in 1950. It was light, airy and imbued with an industrial elegance. It's creator, Jean Prouvé, an ironworker turned designer, hoped the French government would manufacture it in quantity as cheap housing for colonial bureaucrats. Today the merest morsel from that house brings a nice price at auction; thanks to the efforts of Swiss furniture maker Vitra, you can own the authorized reproduction of this iconic design as a tribute to Prouvé's ground-breaking ideas. Designed for the La Masion house, Potence is a pivoting desk lamp on a metal rod with wall mounting bracket, painted black.
