Eero Aarnio is one of the pioneers in the use of plastic and fiberglass in industrial design. These mediums set the craftsman free to create every shape and use every color imaginable. This complete lack of restriction allows him to create objects oscillating between function and fun - but always fascinating. The Tomato Chair visualizes how Aarnio plays with round shapes. At first sight the Tomato appears complicated, but upon inspection one finds an intelligent combination of 4 circles with similar diameters. Two of them compose the armrests, one stretches to a comfortable back, and the fourth half circle sits upside down and provides a consequent seating area.
