VITRA Red Beaver Chair & Ottoman
Frank Gehry is one of the most influential contemporary architects. His sometimes controversial yet arresting body of work has been described as iconoclastic and rambunctious. This restless spirit has made his buildings and furniture designs a unique expression of contemporary society and its ambivalent values. Gehry is best known for building curvaceous structures; his most famous work, and the clearest expression of his style, is the Guggenheim Museum in Spain. With his 'Experimental Edges' Series, Gehry used thick corrugated cardboard with a pronounced texture to create larger volumes, manipulating the density by combining sheets of corrugated cardboard of varying widths within a single form. Some sheets were intentionally misaligned within the stacks, creating an undulating line and slight ripples.
