The C-Chair pays tribute to the classic design of the Armchair 400 which Alvar Aalto debuted at the Milan Triennial in 1936. With its low-slung look and solid shape, the 400 chair was affectionately nicknamed the "tank." Aalto began designing furnishings in the late 1920's as a natural extension of his architectural projects. To him, a piece of furniture was not simply an isolated object; he saw furniture as part of a harmonious interior. The bent hardwood arms and legs form the shape of an inverted "C."
