VITRA Cite Armchair
Jean Prouvé, 1930
Prouvé's production facility in
Maxeville, France allowed him the unique opportunity of combining
industrial aesthetics with technical know-how. In his furniture
designs, Prouvé combines his technical know-how and the
opportunities offered by his production facility with it's unique
industrial aesthetics. The Cité Armchair is one of his early masterpieces, designed in a 1930 competition for furnishing the halls of residence at Cité Universitaire outside of Paris. Prouvé himself used this armchair with its dynamic appearance, its characteristic coated sheet steel rockers and broad leather arm support straps in the living room of his house.
Material: Moulded sheet steel base, seat and back in single-piece fabric or leather cover, armrests made of natural leather straps.
