VITRA Red Beaver Chair & Ottoman
Frank Gehry, 1986
Gehry is best known for building curvaceous structures; his most famous work, and the clearest expression of his style, is the Guggenheim Museum in Spain. With his 'Experimental Edges' Series, Gehry used thick corrugated cardboard with a pronounced texture to create larger volumes, manipulating the density by combining sheets of corrugated cardboard of varying widths within a single form. Some sheets were intentionally misaligned within the stacks, creating an undulating line and slight ripples.
