CARL HANSEN Hans Wegner CH 29 Sawbuck Chair

At the Carl Hansen & Son Factory in Aarup, Denmark, the only chairs produced are those that were designed by Hans J. Wegner. Although the plant has been outfitted with the latest in high quality machinery, the furniture crafted there is still made according to traditional manners by a staff of highly dedicated people. The unusual construction of the CH 29 Chair achieved a couple of advantages; it made it possible to build a structually sound chair with the use of fewer parts. The design enabled Wegner to make the seat wider in the front; which, along with the heavily curved back, made the chair extremely comfortable. The cut outs in the back, the pointed legs and the elaborate execution of the juncture between the fore and hind legs are details resulting in a distinctive and sculptural piece of furniture.
