VITRA Panton Chair Classic
Verner Panton, 1959
There has been a resurgence of interest during the last few years in
the Danish designer, Verner Panton. An outspoken advocate
of space-age living and libertarian lifestyles during the 60's and
70's, Panton's furniture designs are again making stirring
contributions to the spheres of contemporary interior living. Many are
rapidly approaching the status of design icons of the 20th century Originally designed in 1959, Panton finally realized an idea which had preoccupied him for many years; that of producing a plastic chair from a single molding. In 1967, the Panton Chair went into mass production, and was immediately regarded as a sensation, and would go on to become the recipient of numerous awards. One of the first prototypes produced is exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Today, the Panton Chair belongs to the classics of modern furniture design. Hard foam plastic shell, surface painted with a gloss lacquer.
