MODERNICA Side Shell Chair- H-Base
The inspiration for the oft-copied Case Study Chair was a competition
held in 1948, sponsored by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The
idea of stylish furniture produced in quantity was motivated by the
need for reasonably priced designs adaptable to small housing units.
Brought to life by Charles and Ray Eames, the single shell concept was
way ahead of it's time; and, thanks to a company building aircraft
radar domes, the husband and wife team solved the dilemma of mass
production. Until now, creating true fiberglass chairs that display textural prominence and translucency was all but a lost art. For the first time since 1983, the classic 1950 Arm Chair, often referred to as the most significant
furniture design of the 20th century, is being reproduced by Modernica, using much of the the same equipment that manufactured the
originals.
