VITRA .07 Chair
Alberto Meda, 1998
Van Severen's unified
process of design and production was a fundamental aspect of his work
over a long period of time, in which he devoted himself to the
examination of basic furniture types: chair, table, chaise lounge,
shelving, cabinet. He developed primary solutions for these categories
based on a comprehensive exploration of the questions of form, material
and construction. The .07 Swivel Chair is one of the last designs Maarten Van Severan completed before his death. It is the result of an intense involvement with the natural material leather, which had fascinated him for some time. It's seat consists of a comfortable upholstered, pliable construction that's covered with high-end calf leather. The striking open seams are remarkable; they draw attention to the quality of the material used while at the same time emphasizing the precise contours of the seat; which, despite its upholstery, is nonetheless slender. Material: polished die-cast aluminum base, polyurethane integral foam armrests.
