VITRA Kast Storage Unit

Van Severen's unified process of design and production was a fundamental aspect of his work over a long period of time, in which he devoted himself to the examination of basic furniture types: chair, table, chaise lounge, shelving, cabinet. He developed primary solutions for these categories based on a comprehensive exploration of the questions of form, material and construction. Kast is a storage unit that is modular in structure, the base version of which is a sideboard. Supplemented by two simple wooden crates and a further basic module, a shelf/wall cupboard combination arises. Van Severen paid special attention to the color for the sliding doors, which not only emphasize Kast’s elegant and yet seemingly classical proportions, but also give it a fresh and optimistic sense. Material: tubular stainless steel legs, individually height adjustable. Shelves made of extruded anodized aluminum profiles. Side walls made of powder-coated MDF. Maritime pine laminate with lacquering for a natural grain feel. Sliding doors in pink, dark green, bronze-grey, bright white, dark blue and sulphur yellow powder-coated sheet aluminum.
